Creating a 1-2 minute original video file using video tools.

Introducing Kendama

     I wanted to make a video to introduce to people who don't know Kendama, so I first thought about the introduction video's composition.

     In the introduction part about Kendama initially, I recorded the audio on the created PowerPoint slide and made the video with the slide show's recording function. Next, I presented how to perform happily with Kendama and tried to attract the viewers' interest. To do that, I found a good image on YouTube, saved it as an mp4, and edited the screen (clideo.com). After that, I took videos with my iPhone to see how the beginners practiced and became good at some techniques. I shot at different angles for each scene. I tried angles such as a handheld camera, the photographer moving, and a tripod from a slightly lower position. I also tried to record the explanatory audio together in the video. As for the descriptive text, I made a video with PowerPoint as well as the introduction.

I used ShotCut on a Windows PC to edit the video. I chose ShotCut because it allows for more complex editing than the video editor, and I didn't even have a movie maker on my PC. I edited the video of each scene to an appropriate length. The explanation part took a little longer than the native speaker read aloud. I used ShotCut to align the spacing for each scene, enter text, and align each scene's volume. I also layered soundtracks as BGM and examined the playback method (volume, fade-out, etc.).

    It was the first time for me to do all the steps up to this point, and I proceeded with the work myself while learning from the tool selection to the operation method with tutorial videos.

     What I learned from this assignment was, first of all, I expected video editing to be a hassle, but it took longer than I expected, and it was hard. Possible reasons include finding an operation method to carry out what I was thinking, the number of steps required to correct details, and the delay due to my PC's lack of memory. It was also necessary to remember or write down how to operate the application for the first time. When importing material footage into ShotCut, it had to be moved from cloud storage to local memory once. In this assignment, all the video files were less than 200MB, so I managed to operate them even on my low-performance PC. However, when creating a longer video in the future, it is necessary to consider countermeasures.

    In audio assignments, I was crazy about using three sound effects for what the audio describes. When I heard the work of my classmates, I was surprised by the impact of background music. I realized that just having background music made the listener relaxed, and the explanatory audio was easier to hear. So, in this video assignment, I didn't forget to adopt background music.
